He joined the Royal Navy in 1755 and travelled to
Canada. In Canada, he made maps of the coastlines.
In 1768, he went on his first expedition. He sailed
south to New Zealand. He made maps of the two
islands. In 1772, he started the second expedition.
Again he sailed south. In 1774, he crossed the
Antarctic Circle. In 1776, he started the third
expedition. First, he sailed south to New Zealand.
Then, he sailed north. In 1778, he explored the
Arctic Circle. Then, he went south to Hawaii.
He died in 1779 in Hawaii.
